Our work.

  • Tech Justice

Advancing equity and justice in tech through research, policy, and advocacy.

From artificial intelligence to big data, the tech sector is reshaping our society in unprecedented ways. As leading technology companies have grown exponentially over the last decade, so have concerns about their outsized impact on our economy and our democracy. The hands-off policy approach to technological innovation has allowed the largest tech companies to grow in ways that exacerbate racial and socioeconomic inequity and perpetuate harm.

Over the past 15 years, Rhodes Consulting has built a research, strategy, and equity-centered practice at the intersection of technology and social justice. We leverage our deep and broad-ranging expertise in service of businesses, organizations, and communities seeking to shift power and infuse innovation with the values of socioeconomic equity, racial justice, and environmental sustainability. As adrienne maree brown wrote: “Part of our work is articulating a future that people want to move toward.”

  • White Work

Dismantling systemic racism, building systemic equity, facilitating wealth redistribution, repairing harm.

One of Rhodes Consulting’s central priorities is to engage deeply in the work of repairing the historical violence of slavery and attempted Native American genocide, as well as the continuing systemic harm of dominant culture. As a white person, our founder Julia Rhodes Davis understands that the journey of determining how to apply oneself to this broader societal goal can be complex, painful, and overwhelming.

Drawing on our experience in executive leadership, strategy, and coaching, Rhodes Consulting has developed a specialized advisory to guide white people and white-led organizations to rigorously align their actions with their stated commitments to racial justice. We call this “white work” because we understand it is the responsibility of white people to dismantle white supremacy culture—beginning with the self—and create a culture of equity in its place. Our embodied, mindfulness-based approach to white work is informed by practices developed in the lineage of Generative Somatics and the Strozzi Institute, which illuminates the ways in which white people embody oppressive culture. From this foundation, we guide leaders, organizations, and individuals toward informed and meaningful action that fosters the equitable future we know is possible by embodying justice through aligning our actions with our commitments to racial justice.
